What is Peer Support?

Peer support is a form of assistance and encouragement provided by individuals who share similar experiences, circumstances, or identities. It is grounded in mutual understanding, empathy, and shared lived experiences, where peers offer emotional, social, and practical support to one another. Peer support typically occurs within a structured framework, facilitated by trained peers or professionals, aiming to promote personal growth, empowerment, and resilience among participants. The primary goal of peer support is to foster a sense of community, reduce isolation, and facilitate positive change through shared connections and mutual aid.
